Three people died in the shooting including the gunman and nine people injured with one in critical condition who is currently undergoing a surgery.
John Russell Houser is said to have stood up 20 minutes into the showing of the movie, "Trainwreck" and opened fire. As the movie goers started to flee he tried to join and escape with them but on sighting police officers who had quickly responded to the scene of the shooting, he shot himself in the head. John Houser is said to have fired 13 times with a hand gun and parked his car at the theater's exit door.
John Houser has been described as a drifter who arrived Louisiana just a month ago and was staying in a motel.
John Houser had planned the attack as disguises including glasses and wigs were found in the motel he was staying in and the number plate on his 1995 blue lincoln Continental had a license plate that didnot match the car.
President Obama who is on his way to a two nation visit to Africa has been briefed of the incident.
Police are currently searching the motel he was staying in.
